Updating a window in java

To update Java, you just need to click on the update button available in the tray notification. But if Java do not offer update automatically, then you can manually update Java from Control Panel, using these steps.

Java provides notification alert in the system tray of your Windows whenever an update is available.

In my experience, disabling Java Update using the Java Control Panel doesn't work (it's not the UAC issue Oracle talks about) and neither does the associated registry values under the "Policy" key. What does work is simply deleting the value from the Windows "Run" key.

Of course, if you update or install Java later manually, this key will get recreated.

You'll also find them listed in the ' Uninstall Programs' applet.

It's probably not a bad idea to uninstall old versions anyway.

Since you mentioned having "many computers", here is an example of how to do it using the command line on Windows 7 64-bit: Change Java Registry Keys Open Reg Edit on the Windows 7 PC.
